These days, people are rightly concerned about the environment, and are looking for ways to reduce our carbon footprint and help to keep the planet cleaner. One of the most obvious ways to be more environmentally friendly is to cut back our use of gas operated machines such as our lawn mowers. In the past decade, electric lawn mowers have become more and more popular as an alternative to their gas guzzling counterparts.
Electric mowers are pushed like gas mowers, and are an excellent choice if you have a smaller yard. Besides being more environmentally friendly, they are easy to maintain, plus they save money since you don't have to replenish the gas after every time you mow your lawn. Electric lawn mowers only come in the push variety so far, but soon enough there should be electric ride on mowers for those who like a little less work in maintaining their lawn.
Research has shown that most people who own electric lawn mowers do so because they wish to do their part and keep the Earth cleaner by reducing waste and pollution. It has in fact, been estimated that using a gas mower for only an hour causes more air pollution than would be produced by a car that was driven for 150 miles. Because electric mowers don't require gas to operate, there is no emission into the atmosphere, plus the mowers require significantly less energy to work properly.
Besides the obvious benefit to the environment, electric mowers also benefit the user in a few different ways. With no gas engine, you don't have to worry about all the hassles of starting it up, particularly on those cold days. Electric mowers simply start with the push of a button. It doesn't get much simpler! Also, electric mowers are much quieter than gas mowers, so this will probably be appreciated by your pets or neighbors that aren't too fond of noise.
One common complaint with electric mowers however, is that your distance is limited by the length of your extension cord, plus it's a bit of a hassle to have to watch where the cord is so that it doesn't get tangled up in any brush or other obstacles. This problem is being resolved as newer electric mowers are making use of rechargeable batteries, so eventually they will be completely cordless.
